Dymchurch
Just had a whistle stop tour round the RHDR stations in New Romney and Dymchurch. The more I go there the more I love that whole marsh area. I feel myself gravitating spiritually west from Folkestone. People must go to the really nice little café in New Romney off the High St called the Coach House Coffee Shop. It’s a real little gem:

Also, checked out the Marsh Mellow Bakery on the roundabout by the fairground for one of the best sausage (complete with English mustard) baguettes I’ve ever had and then walked along the sandy beach. If you want to check out how much influence Jordan has had on the population, you need look no further than Dymchurch Beach. It’s amazing, but you’d hardly know the beach was there behind the stalinist concrete sea wall inviting you not to cross over from the roadside. But heh! I reckon it’s either that or have your caravan washed away by the sea!
Saltwood Castle
Went to Saltwood Castle NSPCC charity plant sale yesterday – what an amazingly beautiful place. Home of the late (and notorious Tory MP) Alan Clark, who became Minister of State and then Minister of Defence between 1989 – 1992. The castle is still home to his widow Jane.
If you’ve never been, try and go the next time it’s open to the serfs, I mean public. Even the miserable weather didn’t reduce it’s impact. The grounds are really pretty, with peacocks flying in and out of the trees and doves nesting in the ruined chapel. Tried to take some nice shots, but my lens fell off in the jungle dome of the Eden project a few weeks ago and it hasn’t been the same since. Hence the blur in the pictures.
If you’ve got a passion for gardens and are in striking distance of Kent then the Saltwood Garden Safari is worth a visit, organised by the Saltwood Society on 26th June:

Thank you to everyone that bid and helped to make the campaign such a success. Be sure to tune in to ITV1′s David Dickinson Show on Friday 28 May at 3pm, when all seven posters will be featured again.
May the gorse be with you…in Cornwall.
Just back from a quick trip to Cornwall for a private commission. Breathtaking scenery; there was no getting away from the gorse, the slate and the sea. Found some fantastic bays and buildings, Mawgan Porth and having a cup of tea at the amazing Scarlet hotel are foremost in my mind.
The light at St Ives was dreamlike. I took the branch line from Lelant Saltings to get there and the sun was so bright that the miles of sand around the headland looked like a desert island, albeit a big one with well-fed gulls.
